EOFY 2024: Back on the path
At NSW Police Legacy, our unwavering commitment has always been to create a lifeline for families who have lost a loved one. The sudden death of a police officer leaves a partner reeling, and if the family has children, they are faced with the immense responsibility of single parenthood.
Navigating personal grief while guiding children through their own grief is one of the most emotionally draining and challenging experiences of a Police Legatee's life. Household income often plummets, leading to the distressing prospect of having to sell the family home. The children may be forced to change schools. There may not be enough resources for extracurricular activities that foster development and social engagement.
The single parent, engrossed in maintaining the household and caring for the children, often lacks the time to cater for their own needs, risking social isolation and poor mental health.
