Huge thanks to the trekkers from 2020, who joined the team and raised more than $15,000 in donations before circumstances forced us to cancel. Their efforts allowed us to finance another four Police Legatees to take part in this life-changing adventure. Even though not everybody who signed up that fateful year can make the trek this time, their efforts are still having positive effects!
It's been four long years since a group of hardy trekkers last set out over the rugged mountain terrain of the Kokoda Track on a quest for self-reliance, historic understanding, and support of the Police Family.
In 2023, the NSW Police Legacy Kokoda Trek returns. With a long history of involvement from both the NSW Police Force and NSW Police Legacy, the trek brings together people from all across the social spectrum to unite on this epic expedition.
In 2019, the last time the Trek was held, our Police Legatees were joined by Commissioner Michael Fuller APM, who mucked in and camped out alongside everybody else. It was truly symbolic of what this journey represents.
Watch the space below as more trekkers set up their fundraising pages, and be sure to come back and support your favourite. Every dollar they raise is a wind at their backs as they climb the mountain paths, and a small fire of hope for the Police Family.
In 2023, we've set the fundraising target to $55,000. This is the amount required to "pay it forward" to the following year's trek - allowing us to fund 10 positions for NSW Police Legatees on the trek. Every dollar raised above that target goes to NSW Police Legacy's other programs.
